Frequently Asked Questions A: Companion care and personal care services are designed to take over or assist in the activities that individuals or couples need to be able to stay at home safely and with dignity. These may include medication and fluids reminders, light housekeeping, grooming or bathing assistance and running errands. Q: What does the term aging in place mean? A: This refers to the ability of any person to grow old in their own home or that of their family. It is the opposite of institutional residential care like a nursing home. Sometimes it may mean the ability, with extra help, to stay in an assisted living facility as well. Q: Are you able to provide services in a facility? A: Yes. People sometimes discover that the assistance provided in an assisted living facility, nursing home or hospital is not sufficient to provide peace of mind for the client and/or the family. In these cases, contracting with Visiting Angels for a little extra care, can assist in allowing for this peace of mind and heart. Q: Can this help my parents conserve the assets they have worked all their lives to build? A: Yes. Any assets a person spends for their own care is that much less that will be available for the government, through Medicaid or taxes, to take away. Most families would rather see those assets spent keeping their elderly family members at home and independent rather than have them taken away to reimburse the government or be taxed as inheritance. Q: Do I have to sign a contract for care to begin? A: No ~ Visiting Angels recognizes your care needs may change and we are committed to adjusting to your changing needs with either an increase or decrease in your care schedule. We do however have you sign initial paperwork which documents what you can expect from Visiting Angels and what we request from you to ensure the optimum care relationship. This paperwork is fully explained during the in-home assessment. Furthermore, as a consumer in the State of Michigan, you can not be charged for services which are not rendered. Q: How are services paid? A: Visiting Angels sends out invoices twice a month. Services can be paid with a check, credit card, or debit card. Q: How quickly can services be provided? A: We recognize that critical need often drives a start up of care and we are committed to begin care as quickly as needed. If your situation allows, 48 to 72 hours is often sufficient to establish care. Q: Can I change my schedule? A: Our philosophy is to make the schedule work for the family not the agency. You come first. Your needs, your requests, your schedule. We will do everything possible to make sure the schedule you want is the schedule you get. Q: How do I start services? A: Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have further questions or if you'd like to set up an appointment to discuss the best options for your care. Visiting Angels is committed to being a resource to help you identify your ideal support system.
